Nebraska
The flag of Nebraska is modest in appearance but rich in symbolism, celebrating the state’s industrious spirit and prairie heritage. Officially adopted in 1925, it features the state seal centered on a field of deep blue. The seal, designed in 1867 when Nebraska gained statehood, depicts a panorama of frontier life: a blacksmith at his anvil, a steamboat on the Missouri River, a train crossing the plains, and a cabin set against distant hills. Above them arches the state motto, Equality Before the Law—a reflection of Nebraska’s early commitment to justice and fairness. Though its design is often considered traditional, the flag quietly honors the grit, craftsmanship, and progress that defined life on the Great Plains.
