The flag of Nevada embodies both the state’s frontier toughness and its pride in rapid growth during America’s westward expansion. Adopted in 1929, it features a deep blue field with a silver star—symbolizing Nevada’s nickname, “The Silver State,” earned from its rich mining heritage. Above the star sits a yellow scroll reading “Battle Born,” a reminder that Nevada achieved statehood in 1864 during the height of the Civil War, proudly joining the Union while conflict raged. Surrounding the star are green sagebrush sprigs, the state flower, representing endurance in the harsh desert landscape.
