Kansas
The flag of Kansas captures the essence of the prairie state—its wide skies, hardworking people, and frontier beginnings. Adopted in 1927, it features the state seal set on a deep blue field, with a golden sunflower—the state flower—above it, and the word “KANSAS” in bold yellow below. The seal itself is a detailed panorama of early life on the plains: a farmer plowing the land, a wagon train heading west, steamboats on the river, and a rising sun over distant hills. Thirty-four stars arc above the scene, marking Kansas’s entry as the 34th state in the Union. Every element tells a story of perseverance and promise—an emblem of the pioneers who turned grassland into a thriving state while looking ever toward the horizon.
