The flag of Malaysia, known as Jalur Gemilang (Stripes of Glory), features fourteen alternating red and white stripes with a blue canton bearing a yellow crescent and a fourteen-pointed star. Adopted in 1963, the fourteen stripes and star points represent the thirteen states and the federal territories. The crescent symbolizes Islam, the official religion, while the yellow is the royal color of the Malay sultans. The blue canton stands for unity among the Malaysian people. The design evolved from the flag of the Federation of Malaya, adding stripes as new states joined. Malaysia's flag reflects the nation's layered identity: Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions woven into a constitutional monarchy with a rotating kingship. It's a flag built on the principle that diversity, carefully structured, becomes strength.
