The USA–South Korea split flag represents an alliance sealed in blood during the Korean War (1950–1953), when American forces fought alongside South Korean troops against the communist North. One half carries the Stars and Stripes, the other the Taegukgi with its yin-yang symbol and four trigrams. Nearly 37,000 American servicemembers died in the conflict, and the United States has maintained a military presence on the Korean peninsula ever since. Beyond the military bond, Korean Americans have become one of the most vibrant immigrant communities in the United States, shaping cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta.
