The Minutemen flag represents the colonial militia members who pledged to be ready for battle at a minute's notice during the American Revolution. Various designs have been associated with the Minutemen, but the most recognized features an armed colonial soldier standing ready with a musket. The Minutemen were citizen-soldiers drawn from the towns of Massachusetts and other New England colonies, and they played a pivotal role in the opening battles of the Revolution at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. Their willingness to leave their farms and shops to fight for liberty became a founding myth of the American republic—the idea that ordinary people could stand against a professional army. The Minuteman remains a powerful symbol of civilian readiness, self-reliance, and the belief that freedom is worth defending at a moment's notice.
