The flag of Calico Jack Rackham is perhaps the most famous pirate flag in history—a white skull above two crossed swords on a black field. While the classic Jolly Roger typically features crossbones, Calico Jack's variation with swords gives it a more aggressive, combat-ready character. Rackham sailed the Caribbean in the early 1700s and was notable not just for his piracy but for his crew, which included Anne Bonny and Mary Read, two of the most famous female pirates in history.
