The flag of Puerto Rico is a vivid symbol of identity, resistance, and cultural pride. Officially adopted in 1952 but designed decades earlier during the island’s independence movement, it features five horizontal stripes—three red and two white—with a blue triangle at the hoist containing a single white star. The design mirrors the Cuban flag in reverse, a gesture of solidarity with Cuba’s own struggle for freedom from Spain. The red stripes represent the blood of patriots, the white stripes symbolize peace and victory, the blue triangle stands for the sky and government, and the lone star signifies the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico itself.
