The flag of American Samoa blends Polynesian heritage with U.S. affiliation in a striking, triangular design. Adopted in 1960, it features a white triangle edged in red pointing toward the hoist, set against a deep blue field. Centered inside the triangle is a bald eagle clutching two traditional Samoan symbols: a war club (fa’alaufa’i) and a fly whisk (fue). These represent the twin values of authority and wisdom in Samoan culture, balanced by the eagle as a sign of protection and connection to the United States. The red, white, and blue echo the American flag, while the layout evokes Pacific artistry and independence.
