The flag of Utah is among the newest designs in the nation, officially adopted in 2024 after a public redesign effort that sought to blend tradition with modern symbolism. The new flag features a bold red lower half and a deep blue upper field divided by a white mountain silhouette—representing both the state’s geography and its pioneering spirit. Centered on the flag is a beehive, long the emblem of Utah, symbolizing industry, cooperation, and the values of the early Mormon settlers. Above the hive shines an eight-pointed star representing hope and Utah’s Indigenous heritage, while five peaks recall the state’s famous mountain ranges. The colors red, white, and blue honor both the American flag and Utah’s rugged beauty: red for the red rock deserts, white for the snow-capped Wasatch, and blue for the vast western sky.
