Iowa
The flag of Iowa is a graceful blend of French influence and frontier independence. Adopted in 1921, it features three vertical stripes—blue, white, and red—mirroring the French Tricolor, a nod to Iowa’s early history as part of the French Louisiana Territory. Centered on the white field is a soaring bald eagle clutching a flowing ribbon that bears the state motto: Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain. Beneath it, the word “IOWA” anchors the design in bold red letters. The eagle symbolizes strength and freedom, while the motto captures the fierce self-reliance of the state’s settlers.
