Officially adopted in 1897, it features a white baroque shield with three grapevines on a field of rich azure blue. Each vine bears fruit, symbolizing the original three colonies of Connecticut—Hartford, New Haven, and Saybrook—and their growth into a single, flourishing state. Beneath the shield unfurls a banner inscribed with the Latin motto Qui Transtulit Sustinet, meaning “He who transplanted still sustains,” a reflection of the settlers’ faith in divine providence as they carried their culture across the Atlantic.
