British Columbia
The flag of British Columbia is a striking composition that merges imperial heritage with Pacific identity. Adopted in 1960, it features a stylized version of the provincial coat of arms stretched across a white and blue background. The upper portion shows the Union Jack, acknowledging Britain’s historical influence, topped by a golden crown symbolizing loyalty to the monarchy. Below, alternating blue and white wavy lines represent the Pacific Ocean, over which a golden half-sun rises—a metaphor for British Columbia’s location on the western edge of Canada, where the sun sets over the sea.
