The flag of Montana is a rugged reflection of its frontier origins and natural wealth. Officially adopted in 1905, it features the state seal centered on a field of deep blue, with the name “Montana” boldly displayed above in gold letters. The seal depicts a sweeping landscape of mountains, forests, and rivers, with a plow and pickaxe in the foreground—symbols of agriculture and mining, the twin foundations of Montana’s early economy.
